Advanced Reviews

The politics and governance of research into solar geoengineering
Published Online: Mar 14 2021
DOI: 10.1002/wcc.707
Extant proposals for governance of solar geoengineering research (red boxes) fail to encompass critical emergent social and political implications (blue boxes). Explicit, international, reflexive governance covering all forms of research (from modeling to experiments) is urgently needed.

Published Online: Mar 07 2021
DOI: 10.1002/wcc.703
Ways of knowing sea level rise: scientific measurement and modeling of global mean sea level rise (Figure: IPCC 2019) and local knowledge and experience of changes in the land‐sea interface (Plate: previous location of a relocated coastal village in Fiji, photo by Celia McMichael, 2015).

Risks to future atoll habitability from climate‐driven environmental changes
Published Online: Jan 20 2021
DOI: 10.1002/wcc.700
This figure displays the additional risk from climate change to future atoll island habitability. First, islands will experience different futures depending on their type (urban/rural) and region (Pacific/Indian Ocean). Second, risk will increase even under a low emission scenario by the mid‐century, requiring urgent and ambitious adaptation efforts.
