Emerging translation strategies during virus–host interaction
Published Online: Aug 05 2020
DOI: 10.1002/wrna.1619
Translation control of mammalian cells during viral infection can be impacted by tRNA fragments, N6‐methyladenosine (m6A), or modified tRNA pools.

A birds'‐eye view of the activity and specificity of the mRNA m6A methyltransferase complex
Published Online: Jul 19 2020
DOI: 10.1002/wrna.1618
m6A influences the functionality of modified transcripts to regulate gene expression at the post‐transcriptional level. A process that is considered to occur cotranscriptionally, m6A addition can be removed or specifically recognized by protein factors that will channel the modified mRNA to distinct destinations, effectively modulating its expression.

Two sides of the same medal: Noncoding mutations reveal new pathological mechanisms and insights into the regulation of gene expression
Published Online: Jul 06 2020
DOI: 10.1002/wrna.1616
A pre‐mRNA consists of many noncoding sequences which harbor regulatory potential. Mutations (red asterisks) in these motifs alter the fate of mRNAs.

Focus Article

Overlapping mechanisms of lncRNA and expanded microsatellite RNA
Published Online: Nov 16 2020
DOI: 10.1002/wrna.1634
LncRNAs and expanded microsatellite RNA display extensive functional overlap. Shared mechanisms include protein sequestration, peptide translation, miRNA processing, and miRNA sequestration. Understanding parallel mechanisms shared between the two RNA species can reveal biological impact relevant to both lncRNAs and pathogenic microsatellite RNAs. (Created with BioRender.com).
