m6A influences the functionality of modified transcripts to regulate gene expression at the post‐transcriptional level. A process that is considered to occur cotranscriptionally, m6A addition can be removed or specifically recognized by protein factors that will channel the modified mRNA to distinct destinations, effectively modulating its expression.
