Overview

Decoding pluripotency: Genetic screens to interrogate the acquisition, maintenance, and exit of pluripotency
Published Online: Aug 13 2019
DOI: 10.1002/wsbm.1464
Pluripotent stem cells have the ability to unlimitedly self‐renew and differentiate to any somatic cell lineage. Advances in genetic perturbation methods are enabling comprehensive interrogation of pluripotency and differentiation through large‐scale genetic screens. Findings from such screening efforts will have broad implications for developmental biology, stem cell and regenerative medicine.

Advanced Reviews

Going low to reach high: Small‐scale ChIP‐seq maps new terrain
Published Online: Sep 03 2019
DOI: 10.1002/wsbm.1465
Standard native (N)ChIP and cross‐linking (X)ChIP protocols are not suitable for low cell number samples. This article reviews advances central to downscaling of the ChIP method, important examples of biological insights revealed by small‐scale ChIP‐seq experiments, and delineates important considerations when performing ChIP‐seq with limited amounts of material.

Skeletal muscle: A review of molecular structure and function, in health and disease
Published Online: Aug 13 2019
DOI: 10.1002/wsbm.1462
The current review focuses on molecular structure and function of the various components of muscle physiology. Within each component, we highlight the necessary molecular mechanisms and cross‐talk critical for defining the state of muscle health. We also highlight instances of aberrant molecular mechanisms underlying disease.

MRI in systems medicine
Published Online: Jul 31 2019
DOI: 10.1002/wsbm.1463
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a versatile method for the non‐invasive imaging of anatomy, physiology, and function. The brain images shown here reflect measures of anatomical structure (top row), structural connectivity (left middle row), functional activity (right middle row), mean diffusivity (left bottom row), and cerebral blood flow (right bottom row).
